Who we are
Tonga Rugby Union (TRU) is the official governing body for rugby union in the Kingdom of Tonga.
It oversees the development, promotion, and management of rugby at all levels across the country, from grassroots to elite national teams such as the renowned ʻIkale Tahi (Men’s XV) and LOFA (Women’s XV).

Our Mission
To develop, promote, and sustain rugby in Tonga by providing pathways for players, coaches and administration through fostering grassroots participation, enhancing governance and operations, and building strong partnerships locally and internationally.
What we do
TRU manages rugby competitions, national teams, and development programs. It ensures coaching and referee accreditation, maintains governance structures, and builds pathways for players and officials.
TRU also hosts international matches, partners with global rugby bodies like World Rugby and Oceania Rugby, and engages in community outreach, such as the recent Tag Festival in Kolomotuʻa and the inclusion of female referees in national tournaments.
TRU has a rich history rooted in the strong cultural identity of rugby in Tonga. With a vision to unite and nurture local talent, TRU continues to evolve into a world-class rugby institution.
