Tonga Rugby Union is proud to announce the appointment of Ms. ‘Aisiena Latuniua Taumoepeau and Mr David Lavulo Edwards to the Tonga Rugby Union Board.
‘Aisiena brings a wealth of experience in governance, legal practice, executive leadership, and strategic management, with over 15 years of service across the public, commercial, and regulatory sectors in Tonga and the Pacific. Her strong background in corporate governance, finance, risk management, stakeholder engagement, and organisational leadership will be a valuable asset to the continued growth and development of rugby in Tonga.
A passionate advocate for inclusion and the advancement of women’s rugby, ‘Aisiena has already contributed to Tonga Rugby through her previous role as a Board Observer representing the Tonga Women’s Rugby Association. Her commitment to athlete welfare, integrity, and community impact aligns strongly with the values and vision of Tonga Rugby Union.
David is a former Tonga national rugby representative who played 14 Test matches for Tonga between 1997 and 2002, including representing the Kingdom at the 1999 Rugby World Cup. His strong connection to rugby, combined with extensive professional experience in governance and business leadership, brings significant value to the Board.
Professionally, David has held senior leadership and governance roles across both Tonga and New Zealand, including serving as Chair and Director of several government SOEs, trusts, and sporting organisations. His background spans strategic planning, financial management, organisational transformation, stakeholder engagement, and regulatory compliance.
David has also contributed widely to sport and community development through trustee and advisory roles, while maintaining a strong commitment to the growth and sustainability of rugby in Tonga.
Speaking on his appointment, David expressed his desire to support the strengthening of Tonga Rugby Union’s governance, strategic direction, high-performance pathways, and community rugby initiatives.
